New Orleans Day 6 (Ninth Ward, Art Commune, The Joint)

Day six was probably the most inspirational day. We begun our day with a return to the Ninth Ward/Desire Housing Projects and went exploring. After driving through a seemingly hopelessly deserted area we came upon these amazing houses right in the middle of it all. Come to find out, it's an amazing organization that funds the building of houses purely on donations. This company was founded by Brad Pitt and is doing TREMENDOUS things down in New Orleans. Not only are they building houses, but they are restoring hope. The foundation is called Make It Right and there website is http://www.makeitrightnola.org/ While checking out these new homes we came across a memorial to someone so we went up to it and met a man whose wife and granddaughter were washed away during the storm surge. He lived in a run down trailer but was awaiting his new home that was being built by Make It Right. As i stood there thinking how horrific his life must be and what if that was my family, I heard my pastor say,"so finally there's a little hope." and the man just looked at him and said, "no... there's a whole lot of hope." I stood there thinking about what he just said... he had lost both his lifelong companion and his grandaughter and he still saw an enourmous amount of hope. Now that's an organization that's changing lives!!!!

After that life changing experience... we headed over to a place that can't fully be described. In the backyard there was a 4 story tree house made out of abandoned things from the storm and a crazy looking school bus. In the house were 14 rooms housing a bunch of young artists. The place was insane!!!

The joint is pretty much the best place ever for ribs!

New Orleans Day 5 (UCM Museum of Oddities)

Today was rediculous... we went to the freakin craziest museum ever!!! I'm not going to explain it... I'm just leaving photos and the name (UCM Museum). If you wanna know more you'll have to do some research. Oh and i got my girlfriend a gift at the museum and here's the hints i gave her as to what it is... pen, hair, music, dikes. hahahahaha. just another day of missions work with miletwo...

New Orleans Day 4 (The Bayou and Shmoopys)

today was a scouting day that went extremely well. our day begun by heading down to the dulac community center at pretty much the end of the earth (use google maps to look at dulac, LA), then we headed over to shmoopys... the BEST corn nugget things and of course... CHILI!!!!! holy moley their food was EPIC. we then just spent time cruisin' around the bayou looking for cool photo opportunities. overall... it was a dope day.

New Orleans Day 3 (Air-Boating)

Today we left downtown New Orleans (Bourbon Street) and headed to the bayou to a little city called Houma. We found a dope hotel and immediately decided to go air-boating in the swamps. while out on the air-boat we met a man named Larry (who was apparently on wife swap!!) and got a private back swamp tour. we held alligators, were introduced to a crazy animal called a Nutria, saw Larry's alligator bite, and had about 1,984 disgusting bugs smash into our face. So overall... it was epic.

New Orleans Day 2 (A Bunch of Crap)

Yesterday was a day of meeting, and interacting with the people and culture of New Orleans. we started the day off with going down to the Ninth Ward, which was horribly ravaged by hurricanes. we then continued on to an art community with a crazy four story tree house... but our memory card got freakin' erased!!! After a delightful conversation with those lovely people at the art commune, we headed over to Mardi Gras World and an abandoned warehouse/factory. lastly, we ended the night with a dinner at Hard Rock Cafe and a walk down to Cafe Du Monde for a delicious beignet. the day was nearly perfect.
